Review of Realme 12 Pro: Impressive Design, Solid Hardware

January 2024 saw a flurry of new smartphone releases, among which was the Realme 12 Pro 5G series. This latest lineup comprises the Realme 12 Pro 5G and the Realme 12 Pro+ 5G. While both models bear resemblance to the Realme 11 Pro lineup from the front, notable changes have been made internally and to the rear panel. After using the Realme 12 Pro 5G extensively for over a week, exploring various aspects, here's my take on the device.

Realme 12 Pro Price in India:

The Realme 12 Pro is available in India, starting at Rs. 25,999 for the base variant with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage. Additionally, there's an 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant priced at Rs. 26,999. The phone is offered in two color options: Navigator Beige and Submarine Blue. For review purposes, we received the 256GB Submarine Blue variant.

Unboxing Experience:

The unboxing experience of the Realme 12 Pro 5G aligns with expectations for phones in its price segment. The package includes essentials such as a 67W charging brick, a USB Type-A to Type-C cable, a protective case, SIM ejector tool, and standard paperwork.

 


 

Design Impressions:

Standing out amidst the sea of smartphones, the Realme 12 Pro 5G garners attention with its unique design. The Submarine Blue variant, in particular, exudes brilliance with its rear panel sporting a vegan leather finish, reminiscent of a luxury watch dial. Partnering with esteemed French luxury watchmaker Ollivier Savéo has certainly paid off, as evident from the premium aesthetics. The camera module, adorned with gold accents and a sunburst dial, serves as a focal point, contributing to the device's elegance. Notably, the curved display and rear panel lend a slim and sleek profile to the phone, further enhancing its appeal. With an IP65 rating, the Realme 12 Pro 5G also boasts of water and dust resistance.

Specifications and Software:

Equipped with a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor, coupled with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, the Realme 12 Pro offers commendable performance for daily tasks and moderate gaming. The inclusion of features like Dynamic RAM and an in-display fingerprint scanner adds to the device's functionality and convenience. Running on Android 14-based Realme UI 5.0, the phone promises smooth operation, albeit with some pre-installed apps and bloatware.

Performance Overview:

While the Realme 12 Pro may not excel in benchmark tests compared to some rivals, its performance in day-to-day usage remains satisfactory. The device handles tasks like app switching, gaming, and multitasking without significant lag, thanks to its optimized hardware configuration.

 


 

Display and Audio Quality:

With a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel boasting a 120Hz refresh rate, the Realme 12 Pro delivers vibrant visuals and smooth interactions. The dual-speaker setup offers immersive audio experiences, with ample volume and decent bass reproduction.

Camera Performance:

The Realme 12 Pro impresses with its camera capabilities, featuring a triple rear camera setup highlighted by a 50-megapixel primary sensor with OIS. The addition of a 32-megapixel telephoto sensor and an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor enhances the device's versatility in capturing various scenes and subjects. While low-light photography may not be its forte, the Realme 12 Pro delivers commendable results in well-lit environments. Selfie enthusiasts will appreciate the 16-megapixel front camera's performance, which produces sharp and detailed images.

Verdict:

Priced competitively at 313.35USD(₦391,830.63) the Realme 12 Pro 5G offers a compelling package with its attractive design, reliable performance, and capable camera system. While it may not outshine competitors like the Poco X6 Pro in raw performance, it certainly holds its ground with its unique selling points, making it a worthy consideration for consumers prioritizing design and camera prowess.
