A new collaborative effort among major automakers, named Ionna, is poised to roll out 30,000 charging stations throughout North America. This expansive electric vehicle (EV) charging network aims to be operational in the United States by the end of the current year, followed by Canada. Ionna's objective is to strategically position a minimum of 30,000 chargers across North America, ensuring accessibility and convenience for EV owners.
These charging stations will primarily rely on renewable energy sources and will benefit from the collective expertise and resources of leading automotive manufacturers. Each site will boast multiple high-powered chargers, facilitating efficient long-distance travel for EV drivers.
Accessible to all EVs utilizing NACS and CCS connectors, the Ionna network will offer various amenities such as restrooms, food services, and retail options, either nearby or within the same vicinity. Additionally, digital integration and attractive locations will enhance the overall user experience. Furthermore, many charging stations will feature canopies to provide unprecedented comfort and ease during the charging process.
Ionna plans to seamlessly integrate with the in-vehicle and in-app experiences provided by participating automakers. This integration will enable functionalities such as charging slot reservations, intelligent route planning incorporating the Ionna network, payment processing, and transparent energy management, ensuring a smooth and convenient user experience for EV drivers.
