The upcoming Pixel Fold smartphone from Google is reportedly opting to skip the Tensor G3 chipset in favor of the more advanced Tensor G4. Expected to power the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro upon their October release, the Tensor G4 could also feature in the Pixel Fold, suggesting its potential launch alongside the Pixel 9 series.
Initially introduced at last year's Google I/O conference in May, the anticipation for the successor to the original Pixel Fold was high for a May release this year. However, if this rumor holds true, the launch timeline might shift.
Given that Google's Tensor chipsets haven't been groundbreaking in terms of performance, delaying the new Fold to incorporate the superior Tensor G4 chip seems like a strategic move. Moreover, there are reports indicating that the Pixel Fold 2 is being tested with an impressive 16GB of RAM, surpassing any previous Pixel device, along with UFS 4.0 storage, a notable upgrade from the OG's UFS 3.1 storage.
While leaks regarding the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro have surfaced, the absence of similar leaks about the Pixel Fold 2 could indirectly support today's rumor.
