After a prolonged legal process dating back to 2018, the California district court has reached a verdict in the case involving Xiaolang Zhang, a former Apple employee. Zhang has been sentenced to four months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $146,984 in damages.

The legal proceedings commenced in 2018 when the FBI and Apple initiated a joint investigation, uncovering evidence suggesting that Zhang had unlawfully obtained sensitive trade secrets related to Project Titan, Apple's initiative for future smart electric vehicles.

Subsequently, Zhang departed the United States and returned to China, where he joined XMotors, a Chinese startup specializing in autonomous vehicle technologies. It was during this time that Apple became aware of Zhang's suspicious conduct and took action.

Evidence implicating Zhang's illicit activities was discovered through his network activity at Apple and on his Apple devices. Zhang had been employed as an engineer involved in various aspects of Project Titan.

Having pleaded guilty to the charges, Zhang must now begin serving his sentence.
