Google announces new AI-powered features for education

Google has unveiled a range of new features in the areas of classroom management, accessibility, and AI-powered capabilities for creating questions and lesson plans during the Bett ed-tech event in the UK.

AI-powered features:
- Google is enhancing its Classroom assignment feature, which already allows teachers to add questions to YouTube videos. Soon, AI will suggest questions at different timestamps.
- Practice sets, a feature that utilizes AI to generate answers and general hints, is now available in over 50 languages. Educators can transform a Google Form into a practice set.
- A new Resources tab is being introduced to manage practice sets and interactive questions during videos.


- The generative AI tool for Google Workspace, Duet AI, can assist teachers in developing lesson plans.

Class management:
- Teachers will soon have the ability to create different groups within Classroom, allowing them to assign distinct tasks to each group.
- The speaker spotlight feature in Slides enables educators to create lessons with narration alongside the slide deck.
- Google is updating Classroom analytics to include statistics on assignment completion and grade trends.

Accessibility:
- Google is introducing the ability to extract text from PDFs for screen readers on ChromeOS.
- In the Chrome browser, users can now highlight and read text aloud.



Google Meet updates:
- Closed captions in 30 languages and the capability to pin multiple hosts are being added.

Chromebooks:
- Google is showcasing 15 new Chromebooks at Bett, set to launch this year.
- Upcoming Chromebook updates will allow students to view their upcoming assignments directly from the home screen.
